There are a lot of factors to consider when installing office carpeting. This article acts as a sort of checklist for any office carpet installation. Here are the primary items you need to address when installing office carpet.
Carpet Type
The first thing you need to do is determine what type of carpet you want to use. The two basic types of office carpeting are broadloom and modular. Each has its benefits and drawbacks (more on that HERE), and each have different installation requirements. You also need to determine the color, style, and design of the carpet. If you are using modular carpet tiles, you also need to decide what type of backing you’re going to use (PVC backed, Thermoplastic backed, or Cushion backed).
Subfloor Considerations
Before you lay down any carpeting, you need to make sure your subfloor is in good condition. First and foremost, the subfloor needs to be clean and relatively free of dust. The subfloor should also have no visible damage. If your concrete subfloor has holes in it, these need to be repaired before installing the carpet. Another common issue is mold – which will also need to be addressed prior to installation. Finally, you need to make sure your subfloor is as smooth as possible to avoid any lumps or bumps in the finished carpet.
